The pawesome tips can be applied to gatherings year-round, paw-ticularly for new dog parents. With Valentine's Day coming up and a slew of birthdays and Gotcha days, we had to outline some best practices. We didn't want to keep it to our ruffin' selves.

avoid rawhides, not easy for pets to digest, sometimes made with glue and other non pet-friendly components
when buying for a friend, first ask paw-rents about pet's diet
buy from a reputable company
always think of the dog or cat's safety first

designate a management area
practice a routine before guests arrive
get everyone on board in the house, prepare the family to help also tell guests the dos and don'ts around the pet
avoid new commands, don't reinvent the wheel to close the date of
a gathering. The pet is not likely to learn new things in two weeks.

place candles so they can't be tipped over by pets
have a separate area for the pet to relax
